What is a trend ?

A trend is a popular and widespread pattern or behavior among members of society that gains attention and expands over time. They often become highly noticeable during a specific period and in a particular region and may be temporary or permanent.
In the fashion industry and various other sectors, trends refer to patterns, styles, and innovations that evolve in clothing, accessories, and multiple styles of attire.
Trends are usually divided into fads, real trends, and classics.
Fads
fads typically involve specific products or items with a short lifespan, signaling consumers to acquire them within a particular timeframe. Still, they quickly become tired of them and are rarely ready to invest in them as long-term options. The more temporary trends spread, the faster they can lose their appeal and become less impactful. Their short-term nature can limit functionality and user engagement, leading to rapid adoption among specific age groups (such as teenagers) and subcultures.
Real trends
Conversely, real trends are enduring and prevalent over extended periods, influencing consumers, brands, and product transitions. They often shape consumer behavior and preferences until they become iconic or timeless favorites.
Real trends have different lifespans divided into seasonal and long-term trends:
Seasonal trends
They can be presented during fashion weeks at events and festivals, highlighting trends in styles, colors, accessories, and overall themes. They maintain their power throughout the season, gradually declining, and consumers follow other trends.
Long-term trends
Long-term trends typically span two dominant seasons and usually focus on specific topics that evolve to some extent throughout the seasons. Trends can be seen as representatives of a particular period and symbols of modernity for consumers. Their presence may fade gradually, becoming less prominent and ultimately transforming into a few enduring pieces in consumers’ wardrobes (such as a few pairs of platform shoes or various types of jeans).
Classics
Classic trends are products or items people can retain for years in multiple forms in their wardrobes, considered as timeless elements of a classic item (such as a black dress or a pair of jeans).
The constant evolution of trends provides insights into our evolving lifestyles and preferences, indicating how our tastes and behaviors change over time. They are starting points for exploring personal identity, expressing preferences, and socializing. Therefore, depending on the current seasonal trends and prominent models, we may reconsider our choices and seek new ways to express ourselves and enhance our lifestyles.
